At Carolinas Medical Center - Union, all of our actions are motivated by our concern for every patient, and we are committed to the tradition of tending to all your needs, whether they are physical or emotional.

Admission
For non-scheduled inpatient admissions, patients should check in with the receptionist in the main lobby. The receptionist will contact Admissions and Patient Transport to inform them of your arrival. Obstetric patients should go directly to the Women and Children's Center, located on the 2nd floor of the hospital. For outpatient admissions (i.e.-Day Surgery), patients should check in with the Day Surgery receptionist or the receptionist in the Outpatient Treatment Pavilion.

Pre-Admission
Most patients complete admissions forms when they visit the hospital for tests prior to the admission date. Obstetric patients may pre-admit Monday through Friday or may fill out and mail in a pre-adminssion form. These forms are available at your physician's office or from the Women and Children's Center.

Patient Representative/Hotline
A patient representative is available to assist patients and visitors with any concerns. To compliment your care or state a concern, call our Patient Assistance Hotline at 704-296-4020.

Patient Education
Patient education is available for various types of illness. In addition to a knowledgeable hospital staff, patients and families can access closed circuit television, brochures and our medical library's computer system.

Hospital Chapel/Chaplains
The Eugene F. Hamer Memorial Chapel is located on the second floor of Sutton Hall. Our chapel is open 24 hours a day. Service schedules vary and are announced by the chaplain. Chaplains are also available for personal visits.

Living Wills
During the course of your treatment at CMC-Union, circumstances may arise that present ethical dilemmas to you, your family or your doctor. Advanced medical technology sometimes creates complex ethical choices, such as deciding about life-sustaining treatment or interpreting a living will. You and your family may want to discuss the implications of pursuing certain treatments. Or, if you may be unable to take part in your healthcare decision making, your family may find it difficult to make these decisions on your behalf. In such cases, a nursing supervisor or patient representative will assist you in any way possible.

Televisions/Telephones
All patient rooms are equipped with televisions and telephones. Long-distance calls are available through collect calls, credit card calls or billed to a third party. Hearing-impaired patients may request a decoder for their television and telephone. For the safety and convenience of our patients, a bedside nurse's call button allows contact with each nursing station. Patients may block phone service to their room.

Mail and Newspapers
Volunteers deliver mail to patient rooms weekdays. Mail received after a patient has been discharged is forwarded to the provided mailing address. Out-going mail with postage may be given to a volunteer who delivers mail. Copies of our local newspaper are delivered to patient rooms, compliments of Union Regional. Newspapers and stamps are also available for purchase at the CMC-Union Gift Shop.
